Job Description
The Tax Accountant (Sales and Use) position is responsible for preparing sales/use tax returns, analyzing assessments, and calculating customer liability to achieve tax credits for the company based on company sales. This position resolves discrepancies with tax officials and customers and assigns sales/use tax information to customer accounts.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and files monthly sales and use tax returns, analyzing assessments and calculating customer liability to achieve tax credits for the company. Assists with annual personal property tax filings.
- Identifies and accrues sales/use tax liabilities on fixed assets. Reconciles sales/use tax accrual accounts
- Monitors and coordinates tax rate changes in the company’s financial enterprise system and in the POS systems. Manages and updates store profiles in the automated sales/use tax systems.
- Manages state tax audits, minimizing potential tax assessments by resolving any issues or discrepancies with tax officials. Performs reverse audits to identify tax savings opportunities.
- Resolves internal and external customer inquiries and issues related to sales/use tax.
- Stays up to date with sales/use tax developments and researches best practices and trends.
- Participates in special projects related to sales and use tax, and proactively seeks to improve department processes.
- Assist with training Tax associates.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with coursework in Accounting/Tax required
- Minimum three years of accounting/tax experience, preferably in a retail/hospitality environment
- Successful completion of annual store training
- Ability to demonstrate and teach Panda’s Mission, Values, and Culture
- Intermediate knowledge of accounting and tax principles, concepts, and practices
- Knowledge of tax/enterprise systems relevant to Sales/Use Tax
- Knowledge of Sales/Use Tax compliance
- Familiarity with retail/hospitality industry and practices
- Computer/technology skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Communication (oral and written) and listening skills
- Financial analysis and critical thinking skills
- Ability to access data and produce needed reports for Sales/Use Tax
- Ability to solve problems independently
- Ability to assist with projects
- Ability to train other Tax associates
- Ability to talk and share before a group
