Summary
The Accountant (Payroll) position is responsible for preparing account analysis, accounting entries, statements, and financial reports for assigned Regions to ensure information is accurately and properly reflected in the organization’s financial accounting system on a timely basis. This position processes bi-weekly payrolls, prepares daily, weekly, and bi-weekly federal and state tax liability as well as sends daily tax liabilities to ADP.
Responsibilities
- Processes the bi-weekly payroll for assigned Regions, ensures garnishment orders are properly handled and uploads vacation hours to Lawson. Prepares and uploads the safety shoe spreadsheet and check request..
- Provides customer service to Operations, responding to any inquiries related to payroll for assigned Regions. Handles incoming calls from stores in assigned Regions related to payroll issues.
- Prepares federal and state tax data for transmission to ADP and prepares journal entries for payroll tax liabilities for posting to the General Ledger system. Reconciles balance sheet accounts and quarterly tax reports.
- Processes bonus payments.
- Assists with quarterly filing for company’s federal and state payroll taxes and tax inquiries from state agencies.
- Assists in training Associate Accountants, Bookkeeper and Senior Clerks on processing payrolls.
- Participates in special projects and proactively seeks to improve department processes.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with coursework in Accounting required
- Minimum three years of related experience preferably in a retail/hospitality environment
- Successful completion of annual store training
